Thomas Doty – Storyteller
2007 Story Chair (1)
On January 26, 2007, Stephen Kiesling, Kim Marie Murphy and Thomas Doty waded a very chilly Rogue River to the island near Ti'lomikh Falls to locate a stone chair, known as the Story Chair. During the Takelma Sacred Salmon Ceremony, a native fisherman sat in the chair as he netted the first salmon of the spring run. On the riverbank, a storyteller sat in a second Story Chair and told the myths of the arrival of the Salmon People. Essentially, as the story was being told in one chair, it was being acted out in the other.
