Waiting for the Feeder
Each evening I take the bird feeder indoors to protect it from opportunistic raccoons, foxes and bears. They're better off with their natural food and I have no desire to be startled awake in the middle of the night because one of my furry neighbors decided to tear my feeder apart!
Each morning at dawn, the birds show up one by one, waiting for me to bring the feeder, first the juncos, then the chickadees, with the jays watching from the trees waiting for the perfect moment to swoop in for a noisy raid. I fill the feeder before bringing it out. No one wants to wait in the snow for breakfast just to be served a half-inch of grub!
