In 1914, after Grandpa Fred Daugherty was settled in the Rogue Valley near Talent, Oregon, he sent a check to his future bride -- Ama Maude Arnold -- to cover the expense of her traveling from Missouri to Oregon: $25. He sent the check at the end of August and they were married less than a month later in Jacksonville on September 29.
