Feet Shuffling Through Dry Leaves
In Pit River myths it takes a while for Coyote and his buddies to walk from place to place. This pre-automotive traveling is dramatized by saying "tras ... tras ... tras...." which means "feet shuffling through dry leaves." Though created by Jaime de Angulo for his novel Indian Tales, the phrase was fully adopted into the Pit River language. It is used by storytellers to describe the sound of walking through the landscape of Old Time stories. "Tras ... tras ... tras...."
