Great Bear in the Sky

Through the night, the Big Dipper circles to its left around the North Star. To native people in southern Oregon, this constellation is called Great Bear in the Sky. In his sky lodge, Bear dances to his left around his fire, circling the seasons through the year. On Lower Table Rock, near a rock shaped like a giant bear's head, native people dance a lumbering bear dance. They circle to their left to honor Great Bear in the Sky, thanking him for the seasons.
