On Table Mountain

Early morning after a summer rainstorm that cleared the air into its purest form since creation, I stand on Table Mountain and look out over the landscape.

This view is as familiar as my childhood. The Cascade thrusts of Mount McLoughlin, Pilot Rock, Mount Shasta, the curving shorelines of a dozen mountain lakes, the eastern openness of the Klamath Basin.... All has changed little since I sat spellbound by stories from generations of my family who grew up and lived their lives within this world of rugged mountains and valleys as kind as summer.

From the summit of Table Mountain, on this morning after the storm, the landscape of my childhood circles back to its beginnings.
